3G Data Congestion? There's an AP for that
New BelAir100N Wi-Fi AP enables mobile carriers to quickly and seamlessly add 20 Gbps of incremental mobile data capacity per square mile
Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain, February 15, 2010 - According to a report issued in January, 2010 by global analyst house, CCS Insight, the European Mobile Broadband market will see subscriber and revenue numbers nearly double by 2011. Meanwhile, the US mobile Internet over handset market is adding over 2 million users every month, according to a December, 2009 study by IDC. With this massive growth in mind, Juniper Research predicted that "2010 could be the year when 3G networks begin to fall over under the burden of mobile data." Enabling mobile operators to address the huge opportunities along with the networking challenges associated with mobile data growth, BelAir Networks today announced the new BelAir100N wireless access point (AP). The BelAir100N is a carrier-grade dual radio 802.11n Wi-Fi AP designed to provide high-capacity data offload to relieve mobile network congestion in areas of high user concentration.
"With dual mode smartphones and other devices increasingly driving mobile network traffic, leveraging the Wi-Fi capabilities of these devices to offload data is a no-brainer, but mobile operators also want to manage the network quality and brand experience of their customers," said Greg Williams, senior vice president, corporate and business development, BelAir Networks. "The BelAir100N is designed to provide high performance wireless networking and a seamless user experience and it's fast, easy and cost-effective to deploy – it's a real win-win for mobile operators and their customers."
The BelAir100N enables mobile operators to quickly deploy targeted, high capacity Wi-Fi coverage in areas of high user concentration such as downtown and shopping districts, arenas and stadiums, college campuses, hotels and resorts and at special events. With a network of BelAir100N APs, mobile operators can add 20 Gbps of incremental mobile data capacity per square mile, enabling tens of thousands more users in a given area to concurrently enjoy true broadband mobility – watching YouTube, updating FaceBook, searching Google, downloading iTunes or just browsing – without creating network congestion.
The BelAir100N supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz access to address the newest generation of Wi-Fi enabled devices. Its dual radio design can also be configured for both access and mesh or point to point backhaul. It can be deployed in combination with any BelAir Networks indoor or outdoor APs and leverages the same BelAirOS operating system and BelView network management to deliver high performance, scalable wireless networking for mobile operators. The compact, environmentally hardened BelAir100N is designed for outdoor installation and supports the following carrier-grade features:
• Highly granular policy enforcement at the edge with centralized administration
• Carrier security at the edge with robust scalable centralized authentication
• End to end quality of service
• Business intelligence including location and device aware insight into user experience
• Massive-scale mobility proven in the world's largest Wi-Fi networks
• Network management scaling up to 50,000 APs
• Seamless integration with carrier-grade policy managers and multi service edge routers (scaling to 48,000 APs and 480 Gbps of traffic)
• Absolute ease of deployment with APs installed and operational in 15 minutes
The BelAir100N is featured at BelAir Networks stand #2D04 in Hall 2 at the Mobile World Congress, February 15-18, 2010 in Barcelona, Spain.
